Director of Music

Leslie Olive is our Director of Music. He also fills this role with The English Arts Chorale and the Eye Bach Choir, and is the Artistic Director of the Reigate Summer Music Festival, which he founded. He has conducted choirs and orchestras in the UK and abroad, including the Royal Philharmonic, the Philharmonia, the English Chamber Orchestra and the London Mozart Players.

A Music Director at the BBC for four years, Leslie Olive was until recently Head of Music at Colchester Royal Grammar School, one of the Country’s highest-achieving schools, where he still directs an energetic young choir of some eighty boys.

Accompanist

We welcome Christian White this season as our new accompanist. At  Keble College, Oxford, he read Theology and then taught at Sherborne School for Boys and King's School in Chester.  He now teaches at the Royal Hospital School where he is Head of Sixth Form.

He has played for many choirs including Chester Music Society Junior Choir, Ipswich Bach Choir, Ipswich Chamber Choir and Halstead Choral Society.

About us

Stowmarket Chorale is an ambitious choir which rehearses in Stowmarket on Wednesday evenings between September and July.

The choir usually gives three concerts a year.

In March last year we performed Bach's B Minor Mass in Bury Cathedral with the Suffolk Bach Orchestra, followed by Poulenc's Gloria and Durufle's Requiem in July at Stowmarket. July saw us at the John Peel Centre in Stowmarket for Music for a Summer's Evening.

We returned to the John Peel Centre in November to present Handel's Messiah, a sell-out concert. Our Christmas Concert in December at St Peter and St Mary Parish Church featured carols and Finborough School Choir in a varied programme.
